Here’s where we put the new stuff, the anecdotes, or the thing that caught our eye - come back regularly because this is where you’ll find fascinating updates from the worlds of NLP and leadership development...
The science bit...
Often, NLP is referred to as ‘applied psychology’ and whilst this is in part true, there’s more to it than that. Our understanding of neuroscience has come on in leaps and bounds in the past ten years or so, from the discovery of ‘mirror neurons’ to a greater understanding of what the hemispheres of the brain do, and how. Advances such as fMRI scanning are giving us a better ‘picture’ of the brain than we have ever had, and who knows, as we develop equipment that can make even finer distinctions, where we will go next? Cathy’s half way through reading ‘The Master and His Emissary’ by Ian McGilchrist at the moment and it’s providing her with all kinds of insights into how things such as eye accessing actually happen and why... give her a shout if you’re interested and challenge her to explain it to you!
Cathy also attended a workshop run by the eminent thinker and NLP developer Robert Dilts in February, an experience that she found beyond useful on a personal and professional level. She’s already incorporating some of his latest thinking (and her own thinking about his thinking!) into her workshops. Might you find it useful too?
